It's officially both for me.
Our travel habits say a lot about our personalities. It's said that introverts go for the mountains whereas extroverts prefer the ocean.
When most people vacation, they either go up or down; the mountains or beaches. The mountains are a remote escape from human traffic, a place to be alone and reminisce, a little 'Introvert heaven'. The oceans however, are not famously known as a place to decompress alone.
According to a study by researchers at University of Virginia, the conclusions were that mountains and woods are places where you're less likely to engage with others and are able to self-reflect. The only thing reflecting about beaches is the hot sun. It's a place associated with socializing....and watching others.
Spending time in the mountains did not make introverts happier than the beach going extroverts, but also did not mean introverts were more sad.
Up to this point I just concluded that I'm an ambivert. I always have a hard time picking one 'cause they equally excite me.
While living in his cabin in the woods, Henry Thoreau, a notorious introvert, wrote, "We are for the most part more lonely when we go abroad among men than when we stay in our chambers."
I wonder if the narrative would be different if that cabin had been on Diani beach on a weekend in December.
